First step in creating a website

Last time, we had an overview on how to make a website. It was mentioned that there are few factors that we need to consider before we create a design in Photoshop. It is important to plan our steps before we make any actions.

Know the Type of Website

1. Static Websites

This is the easiest to create. It only contains static text and images. This is ideal for a small-sized business, portfolio, small organizations, and the like. Static websites may only contain 1-15 pages.

A single-page website is usually used in marketing. They use it in collecting leads and to giving promos and discounts.

2. Dynamic Websites

Dynamic websites use basic to advance programming. It uses different functionalities like payment options, registration page, online business tools, etc. This also consist of a massive number of pages like blog sites and usually use a CMS (Content Management System). Facebook, Amazon, Ebay, and Twitter are dynamic websites.

CMS is a system used in creating dynamic websites. Every feature like adding articles, adding a user, registration page, are already set up. The only thing that you need to do is to customize its look and other functionalities. It has an admin section that can be access by the administrators. From here, he can edit the contents of the site, add new products, delete users, modify another information, and more. This system makes life easy for web designers. Some open-source CMS is Wordrpesss, Joomla, and Drupal.

Today, CMS is used even for small businesses because of its great benefit. WordPress is one of the best CMS for blogging and creating business websites.

3. Full Flash Websites

Flash is amazing. There is no limitation if you will create this kind of website, the bad thing about this is it’s not easy to do. HTML and CSS knowledge is not enough. You have to study animation, Action script, and more. These topics are not on this course anymore.

Usually, flash is used in creating online games and some application. This makes a flash website more interactive and engaging. Some flash elements are used in banners, navigation, and headers.

If you are going to create a website, you have to know what type of website you are going to make. From here, you will know your capabilities and the cost of the project.

Information Gathering

Information gathering involves getting details about the project. This includes the type of business, its size, purpose of the website, number of pages to create, and other things that they want to put on their website.

Know the Competitors

Be aware and check the sites of your client’s competitors. You may visit websites that offer similar service or sites that belong to the same industry. This is important if you want to stand out from the crow.
